Luiz Molz

Was born in Santa Maria (Brazil) where he concluded his Music studies at the University in 1995. Already during this time he successfully took part in several Music Festivals (Winter Festival in Pocos de Caldas-Minas Gerais, winter Festival in Campos do Jordao-Sao Paulo, and music Festival in Vale Vêneto-Santa Maria).

His first operatic roles were:
Benoit and later Colline in La Bohème, Don Alfonso in Cosi fan Tutte, King Balthazar in Amhal of Menotti and Dr. Grenvil in La Traviata.

He also took part in many concerts and oratorios in Santa Maria, Rio de Janeiro, Porto Alegre, Curitiba, Sao Paulo etc.

In 1993, 1994 and 1995 he won numerous Singing Contests in Brazil such as the ”Carlos Gomes“ Competition; as well as first prize of the International „Young Soloists“ competition, and the first place in the VIII „Sebastian Benda“ competition. Also in 1993 he received a scholarship to the Arts Academy in Rome.

A scholarship from the Brazilian government in 1996 permitted him to further his studies in Germany where he attended the College of Music Karlsruhe (opera school) studying by professor Maria Venuti.

1997/98 he sang in two Productions at the Stuttgart opera - L’enfant et les sortileges and Der Gestiefelte Kater-which was later released on CD by the State opera of Wuertemmburg in Stuttgart. He also sang leading roles in many productions at the Musikhochschule Karlsruhe.

1998/99 he was accepted into the Opera studio in the Baden State-theatre in Karlsruhe. Concerts and guest performances took him also outside of Germany to international appearances in Croatia, Bosnia, Estonia, Luxembourg, Switzerland and Brazil.

1999/2001 he obtained a solo Contract at the Freiburg Theatre where he sang the major roles of his field (category), such as 29 performances of Sarastro in Magic Flute.

Since 2001 he is a soloist at the State theatre of Baden in Karlsruhe where he has,thus far, sung more than 20 different major roles the most important of which being: Wurm in Luisa Miller, Mefistofeles in Mefistofele from Boito, Dulcamara in L’Elisir d’Amore, Fiesco in Simone Boccanegra, Figaro in Le nozze di Figaro, Kotschubey in Mazzepa, Timur in Turandot, Eremit in Freischütz, and Leporello in Don Giovanni.

He has also given guest appearances in Bonn, Darmstadt, Düsseldorf, Dresden, Essen, Freiburg, Kaiserslautern, Darmstadt and Ulm.

In August 2003 he sang in the Theatro Municipal do Rio de Janeiro König Marke in Tristan und Isolde and
in 2007 he sang in Slovenia the Sancho Panca in Don Quichotte of Massenet.

2009 he sang Banco in Macbeth in Brazil und Eremit in Freischütz in South Korea.
In Karslruhe he sang last Leporello in Don Giovanni, Don Basilio in Barbiere di Siviglia, Truffaldin in Ariadne
auf Naxos, Grande Inquisitore and Frate in Don Carlo and Fotis in The Greek Passion from Martinu.
